Nintendo of Europe announced in a press release that Kirby: Battle Royale will be available as a demo on the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Europe today.
If you download the demo, you can transfer your save file to the full game to unlock Meta Knight!
At the moment, it's only known to be available in Europe today, so we don't know if Australia and America will get it the same time. Fingers crossed!
